Through the keyhole

LOL! was given exclusive access to the allotment of one of the residents of Open Life Village.

Here, Tori Landau tells us about her favourite things on allotment 14.

The ice cream bowl
The bowl was the first proper object that I made and along with the ice cream makes an occasional appearance. Placing the bowl on the table always makes me smile because when originally repositioning the ice cream I managed to send a scoop scooting off into the rocks that surround the sandpit and couldn’t find it anywhere. Thank goodness for parcel auto-return!
Paddy

Representing an RL macaw of my acquaintance, Paddy contains an age detection script given to me by Lilac. The script has the effect of imitating the real Paddy’s mischievous nature and so far there have been no protests when someone clicks on him and he announces their age to half of the allotments.

The bean bags

Kered gave me one of these the evening that I took possession of my patch of OU SL heaven and I could barely copy it fast enough to provide enough seating for those who appeared for a very enjoyable natter. Various poses are scheduled to be added soon.

Birds of Paradise plants

Placed in the corners to provide colour, these are a recent addition and since in RL I’m the opposite of green fingered I hope that they continue to thrive. One plant mysteriously found its way onto Jolly’s doorstep so belated apologies to Jolly if you had to wade through greenery for half a day to gain entrance to your own home.

Through the keyhole

LOL! was given exclusive access to the home of one of the residents of Open Life Village.

Here, Elsbeth Biedermann tells us about her favourite things in 2 Rez Promenade.

The gift
One of my favourite items in my house are these cushions. These were a house-warming gift from Jadis Mai, and really make my place homely.

The bedroom
Moving upstairs and I love, love, LOVE the bed, and at some point I would love to get a sleeping pose put on it - if I get round to it!

The easychair in my bedroom reminds me of the one that used to be beside my RL bed when I was a child. The only difference is that this one has arms - mine didn't.

The pictures
Finally, two of my favourite items are the photos I have hanging in each room. Both are photos I've taken, and one of the first things I made properly in SL, so I'm rather proud of them!

The one on the left hangs downstairs and the one on the right is upstairs.

Through the keyhole

LOL! was given exclusive access to the home of one of the residents of Open Life Village.

Here, Hennamono Morpork gives us the lowdown on 1 Walton Bank.

The Comfy Chairs
“Oh no – not the comfy chair!” On entering the house the first thing you will encounter are a collection of comfy chairs and bean bags (“not the soft cushions!”). One of the reasons for having a place of ones own, I think, is to have a place to gather with close friends for a bit of a chat. So this area is set up just for that. Of course, one of the “chairs” is in fact a cat basket – that’s for me!

The Altar
Moving upstairs we come to a Buddhist meditation chamber, complete with bell and incense. I know a lot of people set up a bedroom but I don’t sleep in SL so don’t see the point (besides I do have my kitty basket downstairs!). When times are quiet I will come here to meditate however.

Teleport System
I did have a problem with the teleports in my house – every time I tried to go downstairs I ended up underground instead! However this problem was solved by fitting another relic of my old tower. I think they look better than the defaults too!

Pictures of My Sky Box
Before moving in here my home was a skybox in Jadawin. I decided it didn’t make sense having two homes so I let the skybox go. I had good times there though so it is immortalised though in the pictures that decorate the walls. In fact most of the furnishings that are to be found in the house will be recognisable to those who visited my tower.

The Fish Tank

When I bought my own house in RL in 1997, there was a huge fish tank built into the wall between the living room and kitchen. I loved it, but maintaining it was very hard work and in the end it had to go. Now, with small children and cats, a fish tank is probably a bad idea, so this is my way of having one without the worry of cats or boys eating the fish and without the need for tank cleaning.

Diello’s Mugs

Diello’s is my cafe in SL. It’s named for my youngest son - Diello is one of his middle names. When I set up my first cafe, Kickaha made me these mugs using the texture I’d made for the cafe signs. Diello is the Crown Prince of Borovnia, a fictional world created by the lead characters in the film “Heavenly Creatures”.

Laundry

This is really me having a joke with myself because I hate doing laundry, and my laundry pile is actually more of a laundry mountain! I’m pleased with how this all looks because everything in the room was free.

Pan’s Picture

This is a picture of a friend I met on Plurk and then met in-world, Pantaleimon Aeon. It’s actually a portrait of his avatar. He posted it on Plurk, and I loved it as soon as I saw it. I asked if he would mind if I used it in my cafe because it perfectly matched the colour scheme there, but I love it so much I also put a copy in my house.
